Alura Swinwood

Alura Swinwood (she/her) holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Child and Youth Care with an Indigenous Specialization from the University of Victoria, as well as an advanced Diploma in Child and Youth Care from Algonquin College. Alura completed her Masters in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University and is a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario.
Alura brings an intersectional lens to practice, with a focus on social justice and cultural responsivity, alongside a strengths-based and trauma informed approach. With a background in a range of community based settings with children, Alura believes that it is critical to see and understand individuals in the context of their own unique and complex systems. Alura’s areas of expertise include parent-child relationships, parent coaching, sibling conflict, behavioural difficulties, ADHD, and anxiety.
Alura provides a warm, inclusive, connected, empathic, and non-judgmental space for children, parents, and families to reach for the change they want to see within their unit, and themselves. With the grounding philosophy of believing both kids and adults are doing the best they can with what they have, Alura seeks to tailor treatment to clients’ individualized needs and goals.
Alura is trained in Circle of Security and Collaborative Problem Solving and brings a balanced approach including but not limited to: attachment based concepts, neurobiologically informed practices, creative/play based interventions as well as cognitive frameworks. Alura seeks to empower clients to establish a path forward that brings new awareness, levity, and connectedness
